AN ACT to amend the Parliamentary Under-Secretaries Act 1988.

BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of Western Samoa in Parliament assembled as follows:-
1. Short title and commencement - This Act may be cited as the Parliamentary Under-Secretaries Amendment Act 1997 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Parliamentary Under-Secretaries Act 1988 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act) and shall be deemed to have come into force on 1 January 1997.
2. Salaries and allowances - Section 7 of the principal Act is repealed and replaced by the following Section:
"7. Salary and allowances of Parliamentary Under-Secretaries - There shall be paid to each Under-Secretary:
(a) A salary at the rate of $25,200 a year; and
(b) An allowance at the rate of $6,180 a year,
to provide for expenses incurred in connection with his official duties and in duties in connection with the Legislative Assembly."
