AN ACT to amend the Insurance Act 1976.
[28 August 1998]
BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of Samoa in Parliament assembled as follows:-
1. Short title and commencement-(1) This Act may be cited as the Insurance Amendment Act 1998 and shall be read with and form part of the Insurance Act 1976 (the principal Act).
(2) This Act shall come into force on the date that it is assented to by the Head of State.
2. Definition of "Insurance Business" - Section 2 of the principal Act is amended by deleting the definition of "Insurance business" and replacing it with the following:
""Insurance business" includes every class of the business of undertaking liability by way of insurance or reinsurance-
(a) On or in respect of any life or personal injury; or
(b) Against or in respect of any liability to pay fees for the provision of any class of health or medical services; or
(c) Against or in respect of loss or damage of any kind, including liability to pay any damages compensation, or other amount contingent upon the happening of any event;
and includes any business incidental to such business."
