Representative Assembly (Members' Expenses and Allowances) Regulation 1980 (Amendment No. 5) Act 1987

REPUBLIC OF VANUATU

THE REPRESENTATIVE ASSEMBLY (MEMBERS' EXPENSES AND ALLOWANCES) REGULATION 1980 (AMENDMENT NO. 5) ACT

NO. 11 OF 1987.

Arrangement of Sections

1. Amendment of Joint Regulation No 12 of 1980.
2. Commencement.

An Act to amend the Representative Assembly (Members' gratuity) regulation No. 12 of 1980.

BE IT ENACTED by the President of the Republic and Parliament as follows:

1. Amendment of Joint Regulation No 12 of 1980.

The Representative Assembly (Members' Expenses and Allowances) Regulation 1980, as amended by Acts No. 12 of 1983, No. 14 of 1984, No. 39 of 1984 and No. 38 of 1985, is further amended as follows:-

(i) by repealing Section 8A (1) and replacing it by the followings

• "GRATUITY
• (1) Subject to subsection (2), a person who, after the commencement of this Act, ceases to be a Member of Parliament shall be entitled to receive a gratuity at the rate of the montly allowance referred to in Section 3, multiplied by three (3), for each year during which he was a Member of the Parliament and pro rata for each uncompleted year.

(ii) by repealing Section 3. (i) and replacing it by the following:
(i) Every Member of Parliament (including the Speaker and the Ministers) shall be paid a monthly allowance of VT.82,500 to cover representation.

2. COMMENCEMENT

This Act shall be deemed to have come into force on the first day of August 1987.
