Magistrates Court of Solomon Islands |
IN THE AUKI MAGISTRATE'S COURT
SOLOMON ISLANDS
Criminal Case No. 113/2010
REGINA
V
ALICK SADE
SENTENCE
Pros: Sgt Moffat
Def: Mr Nigel Galo
Date of hearing: 1st & 2nd February 2011
Date of Sentence: 2nd February 2011
You are found guilty after a trial – The sentence for this offence is 14 years imprisonment.
The victim is 23 years of age, male person he lost his left hand below the elbow and said in his evidence that he feels abnormal. He will always feel like this for the rest of his life.
This was a very vicious and gruesome assault. It is unfortunate that people like you use the weapon to do the talking when you should resolve your differences by other means.
I am intrigued that you and your family reconciled with the victim after the incident. Had you done this before the incident you would
not have been before the court today.
I am surprised that even after the reconciliation you opted to defend this case and your father and brother supported your version.
I accept that you are first offender – 42 years old married with 6 children – and your wife is expecting a child shortly and you are the sole bread winner in the family.
This matter calls for a custodial sentence. Taking into account the seriousness of the offence you are sentenced to a period of 3 ½ years imprisonment. With effect from today.
Shafi Khan
Principal Magistrate
