SENTENCE

Mwanesalua, DCJ: The Defendant in this case is Joseph Faiga. He has been charged with one count causing grievous harm to Rhoda Rauna (“the victim”) on 30th August 2016. They are husband and wife.
On that day at about 3.00pm, the victim was living with her brother at Lunga, East of Honiara. The Defendant went to Lunga and asked the victim to return to their house. The victim refused.
The Defendant was then angry with the victim and assaulted her with a reinforce rod 40cm in length by 2cm in diameter. As result of that assault the victim received injuries. She sustained injuries on her sexual organ; a fracture to her left ischia bone on left leg; left knee cap; left palm and her right arm. She went to hospital for treatment of the injuries.
It is obvious from the injuries that she sustained grievous bodily harm from the attack of the defendant.
The injuries inflicted on the victim are very serious. The Defendant admitted his offence. He pleaded guilty to the charge. He has no previous criminal record.
He is therefore sentenced to serve three years imprisonment from today 22nd Friday June 2018. Order accordingly.

THE COURT
Hon. Francis Mwanesalua
Deputy Chief Justice
