SENTENCE
Mwanesalua, DCJ:
The Accused Roy Leslie Sega has been charged with the murder of the deceased Elizabeth Wairogo on 1st January 2015. On that date the deceased, her husband Daniel Wairongo and family were living at Taraga Settlement, Kaonasugu area, West Bauro, Makira Province.
On the afternoon of that day the deceased and her husband were working at their garden. Their daughter Melma Hageni and two of their grandchildren Rolland and Jaytan stayed at the house.
The Accused arrived at the kitchen house of the deceased’s home and took Saho (local tobacco) from where it was placed in the kitchen and began cutting the Saho on a timber. Rolland was present in the kitchen at that time.
The Accused asked where the deceased was and Rolland told him that she was at the garden. Melma ran to the garden to inform the deceased about the accused.
Rolland was present in the kitchen when the deceased arrived. The accused sat quietly and cut the local tobacco. Rolland then left the kitchen. The accused then held a long bush knife and cut the deceased. He then fled from the scene. The deceased was taken to the clinic at Kirakira where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The accused inflicted the following injuries on the deceased. The left hand was amputated; a deep wound to the right eyebrow; there was a cut to the left side of the face extending to the lip and left eye lid; blunt injury to the back of the head; the elbow was cut off and laceration to right arm and the chest.
The accused pleaded guilty to murder. The offence only carries one sentence. That is imprisonment for life even though where there is a guilty plea is made in court.
The accused Roy Leslie Sega is sentence to serve the sentence of life imprisonment as from 17th February 2017. Order accordingly.
