Queen v Mai'u [1955] PGSC 4 (10 September 1955)

IN THE SUPREME COURT OF THE
TERRITORY OF PAPUA AND NEW GUINEA

No. 71

THE QUEEN v. INAU MAI'U

JUDGMENT

In this case I am quite satisfied, With even no medical testimony at all, that the death of this woman followed immediately on what was done by the accused, and that his action killed her.

He had no excuse for hitting her in such a fashion. He hit her in anger, and I think all these people realise now that if you hit someone in the vicinity of the stomach as he hit her, it is likely to cause death.

I find the accused Guilty of unlawfully killing his wife and I sentence him to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour.

J.
