Republic v Yee On [1987] KIHC 9; Criminal Case 08 of 1987 (7 September 1987)

IN THE HIGH COURT OF KIRIBATI
BETIO

High Court Criminal Case 8/87

REPUBLIC

v

TERAUTETE YEE ON

7th September 1987

Coram: R.G. Topping J
Boutu Court Clerk
T. Teiwaki for the Accused
T. Tabane State Advocate
Accused present

Court:

You have been convicted on your own plea of five counts of forgery. You are a first offender and entitled to leniency. While forgery is a serious offence it is nonetheless only a misdemeanour when an offence against section 334(1) is alleged.

All the money missing in respect of these forgeries has been recovered which is an additional ground for leniency as is the fact that the offences occurred in 1981. In these circumstances a suspended sentence seems suitable.

Sentence:

3 months imprisonment on each count concurrent suspended for 1 year on condition you are not convicted of dishonesty in that time.

R.G. Topping
JUDGE
