PHARMACY AND POISONS (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1997

AN ACT
TO AMEND THE PHARMACY AND POISONS ACT
ENACTED by the Parliament of Fiji.
Short title
1. This Act may be cited at the Pharmacy and Poisons (Amendment) Act, 1997.
Section "22" of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act repealed and replaced
2. Section "22" of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act is repealed and replaced as follows:-
"Persons eligible for registration
22-(1) Any person who is of good fame and character and has attained the age of twenty one years may be considered for registration as a Pharmacist under the Act, provided that the person has satisfied all the requirements specified under either subsection (2) or, subsection (3) of this Section.
(2) A person may be considered for registration under this Section if that person:-
(a) has passed all prescribed examinations; and
(b) has completed a prescribed course of practical training with a Pharmacist in accordance with such conditions as are prescribed and in premises that are approved by the Board; and
(c) has passed an examination in a course of first aid approved by the Board; and
(d) has paid the prescribed fee.
(3) Notwithstanding subsection (2), a person may be considered for registration under this Section if that person:-
(a) holds a certificate or diploma of competency as a Pharmacist from any society, college or board of pharmacy recognised under the regulations; and
(b) holds a current certificate of identity as a Pharmacist; and
(c) has completed a period of employment of not less than four weeks or as determined by the Board under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist; and
(d) produces evidence satisfactory to the Board that he remains in good standing with the society, college or board of pharmacy by which the certificate or diploma was issued; and
(e) has paid the prescribed fee."
"First Schedule" repealed
3. The "First Schedule" to the Pharmacy and Poisons Act is repealed.
Passed by the House of Representatives this nineteenth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand, nine hundred and ninety-seven.
Passed by the Senate this twenty sixth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand, nine hundred and ninety-seven.
