AN ACT
TO AMEND THE HIGH COURT ACT
ENACTED by the Parliament of the Fiji Islands-
Short title
1. This Act may be cited as the High Court (Amendment) Act 2002.
New section inserted
2. The High Court Act (Cap. 13) is amended-
(a) in section 5(1) by deleting "12" and substituting "15";
(b) by inserting after section 5 the following section-
"Prescribed countries
5A.-(1) The following countries are prescribed for the purposes of paragraphs (a) and (b) of section 130 of the Constitution-
(a) Australia;
(b) Canada;
(c) New Zealand;
(d) Papua New Guinea;
(e) Samoa;
(f) Sri Lanka;
(g) Tonga; and
(h) United Kingdom."
Validation of appointments
3. Any appointment made before the commencement of this Act in respect of a person from a country prescribed under this Act is validated as if such country was a prescribed country at the date of appointment of such person.
Passed by the House of Representatives this 9th day of August, 2002.
Passed by the Senate this 21st day of August, 2002.
