An Act to amend the House of Arikis Act 1966
(18 March 1971
BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of the Cook Islands n Session assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1. Short Title - This Act may be cited as the House of Arikis Amendment Act 1970-71 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the House of Arikis Act 1966 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2. Salary and allowances of Arikis - Section 15 of the principal Act, shall be amended by adding the following new subsections:-
"(2) There shall be paid to the Arikis who are not members of the House for any year such sum or sums, allowance and travelling expenses as the Executive Council shall from time to time determine.
(3) There shall be paid to the President of the House in addition to any sum or sums paid to the President pursuant to subsection (1) of this section, an allowance of fifty dollars per annum. This subsection shall be deemed to have come into force on the first day of January 1966".
3. Consequential amendment - Section 29 of the Local Government Act 1966 is hereby amended by inserting the words "other than Arikis" after the words "Members of the Island Council" and before the words "may be paid".
