An Act to amend the Civil List Act 2005
BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:
1. Short Title - This Act may be cited as the Civil List (Amendment) Act 2007 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Civil List Act 2005 (hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act").
2. Interpretation - Section 3 of the principal Act is amended by-
(1) Inserting after paragraph (f) in the definition of the expression "office holder" the following-
"(g) Deputy Speaker;
(h) Leader of the House;
(i) Whips
(j) Associate Minister.
(2) Inserting after the definition of the expression "traveling expenses" the following-
"Whip" means a member of Parliament who is appointed by the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition to facilitate the work of the members of the same political party in Parliament."
3. Appointment of Whips - The principal Act is amended by inserting the following section after Section 13-
"13A - Appointment of Whips - The Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition may, by notice in writing to the Speaker, appoint a member, who is not an office holder, to be a Whip for their respective parties."
4. Associate Minister - Subsection (3) of Section 14 is repealed.
