An Act to amend the Animals Act 1975 so as to provide for the importation of any species of animals for zoological purposes
(8th March 1985
BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Cook Islands in Session assembled and by the authority of the same, as follows:
This Act may be cited as the Animals Amendment Act 1984-85.
The principal Act is hereby amended by inserting immediately after section 7 the following new section:
"7A. Exemption for zoological purposes
(1) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 7, the Queen's Representative may by Order in Executive Council permit the importation of any speciesof animal where that importation is for zoological purposes only.
(2) Any Order pursuant to subsection (1) may be made subject to such conditions as may be necessary, relating to the importation, custody, health, sex, number or otherwise of the animal or animals.
(3) The Minister may, acting on the advice of the Secretary,order the destruction of any animal imported or kept otherwise than in accordance with the conditions set out in the Order in Council."
