High Court of the Cook Islands |
IN THE HIGH COURT OF THE COOK ISLANDS
HELD AT RAROTONGA
(CRIMINAL DIVISION)
CR NO. 140/03
POLICE
v
TRAVEL TANGATAPOTO
Defendant
Mr Titaa for Police
Mr George for Defendant
Date of Sentence: 4 July 2003
DECISION OF SMITH J
You first appeared before the Courts in Rarotonga at the age of 16. You faced three charges, one of burglary and two of being on a property with intent. You were back again before the Court on the 15th of August 2001 on a charge of theft. You are only 20 years of age now and yet you appear to be building a life of crime for yourself. This must be stopped. Robbery is a crime far worse than theft or burglary, not only are you depriving someone of their property, but you also put them in a position of fear, terror and concern as to their safety. You have not responded to community service therefore I am sentencing you to three months imprisonment at the Arorangi Prison to be followed by 12 months probation during which you will abstain from the consumption or purchase of liquor, will not enter licensed premises and you will attend any training or workshop programs as directed by the Probation Service.
