Police v Tangaroa [2003] CKHC 23; CR 101.03, 105.03 (4 July 2003)

IN THE HIGH COURT OF THE COOK ISLANDS
HELD AT RAROTONGA
(CRIMINAL DIVISION)

CR NO. 101/03, 105/03

POLICE

v

PAPATA RICHARD TANGAROA
Defendant

Mr Titaa for Police
Mr Arnold for Defendant

Date of sentence: 4 July 2003

DECISION OF SMITH J

I've heard what Mr Arnold has said in your support, it is your first offence, you're 26 years of age and you are obviously making a name for yourself in your work at the Ports Authority. Your employer speaks very highly of you. It's just a shame you've dropped into these problems of yours of smoking and keeping marijuana cannabis. You are a first offender and to that extent the Court may look leniently upon you but I warn you that if you come back on any similar charges such leniency will not be afforded you. I am going to accept part of the Probation Service's report, you are directed to 12 months probationary supervision, the first three months of which you are to carry out community service.
